I used to hear a lot about the expatriate youth and the difficulties and problems they suffer in a foreign country, especially if they are young or alone. The young man leaves his country whether by his own will or by being forced to do so, so he travels to another country and lives among different people and a culture different from his own. So it is his duty to adapt as much as possible to this new environment and with these new people. Here I am, the expatriate Ahmed Al-Shaer, 20 years old, studying human medicine. I left my country against my will and went to another country, Egypt, to be a safe place for me and to complete my educational journey. Countless daily thoughts go through my mind. Will I return to my country again? So when? The reality is not promising, as the killing, displacement, war, and genocide do not end. This is the suffering of my family besieged in Gaza and the situation of all my people. I live in constant fear of losing one of my family. Things are getting worse day after day. I miss my country and my family very much. I miss my mother. I try hard to live up to her expectations and I try in every way to bring joy to her heart and to draw a smile on her face after time has removed it and after the death of my father who dreamed of seeing me as the best doctor. I try to fulfill his dream and make my mother proud of me. I said goodbye to my mother and brothers for the last time before my travel but I don't know if I will meet them again or not.

Night comes and with it all the pains and memories. I remember when I was young. I couldn't spend a single day away from my home and away from my mother and brothers. I never expected that the time would come when I would spend days, even months, away from my home and family.

I have suffered from life's injustice and sadness, not a little. Life has not spared me from its injustice, nor from its alienation, nor even from its diseases. My life has become full of worries and sorrows. I am afraid that I will stop my education and achieve my father and mother's dream because I cannot afford tuition fees. I hope to find mercy and humanity in your hearts and help me complete my education and become a doctor and provide service and treatment to those in need.
