My name is Inna Babaeva and I am a multimedia sculptor. On September 17th, 2025, the historic Red Hook Artist building, where I had my art studio, caught on fire. The NYFD poured over 50,000 gallons of water per minute into the building for over 9 hours to put the fire out. As a result, the roof and the floor of the 4th floor, where my and other artists' studios were located, collapsed. Hundreds of artists lost everything.
I lost all my equipment, materials, and over 200 completed hand-blown glass and other material sculptures that I made since moving to New York City in 2003. Over twenty years of my work is gone, including the glass sculptures that I produced, often with the help of grants and residencies. Insurance coverage for this work was not possible.
I need to restart my career and move forward, just like I did when I moved to the United States from Ukraine in 1991.
Any donation you are able to make will help me to again start on the production of new work in blown glass and a variety of other materials.
