Help After AJ Michnevich's Stroke

Donation protected
On November 26, 2019, just two days before Thanksgiving, AJ Michnevich suffered a massive stroke at his home.  Luckily, his wife Megan was at home at the time. She quickly called for help from 911 and neighbor Barney Conrads. A Life Flight ambulance transported him to St Pat's hospital in Missoula.

Rock Creek is a close community.  Neighbor Jackie Johnson, a nurse at St Pat's met AJ at the door.  He recognized her as he was brought in and said: "Hi Jackie, how are you, dear?" Big-hearted AJ, always polite and interested in others no matter his situation.

It was discovered that AJ had two clots, a smaller one in his carotid artery and another, larger clot on the left side of his brain. Upon arrival, AJ was given a very strong blood thinner - TAP (tissue plasminogen activator). The smaller clot was removed and the larger clot was exploded with the use of interventional radiology.

For the next two and a half weeks, AJ remained in the hospital at St Pat's. His speech has greatly improved and he is able to move his head back and forth.  However, he is unable to move much on his right side.

On Friday, December 13, AJ was moved to Village Healthcare Rehab in Missoula. AJ enjoys visits from the many friends he has.

It is unclear how long AJ will remain in rehab. Progress is very slow. Megan hopes he will return home soon. He needs full-time care until movement returns to his right side.

Medicare will pay for 100 days at the rehab center. After that, the future is in question.

Megan works full time in Missoula. She is now the sole bread-winner. She spends her time working, meeting with medical providers, visiting with AJ, and driving to and from their home on Rock Creek to spend a little time with the fur-babies.

As you can imagine, resources are very thin and future expenses are frightening and unimaginable.

Megan is a proud, hardworking gal. Everyone who knows her recognizes that.

And as for AJ, I've never known anyone who spends so much time helping others or donating time to raise money for great organizations such as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Grizzly Sports Scholarship Association at UM. He also works hard with the Granite County Planning Board. He has such a big heart; always quick to help others.

They can use our help. Expenses pile up quickly. Gasoline, heating bills (they normally heat with wood but that's not feasible), incidentals, mortgage, and more. Now on only one income. They need our help.
