From Bogotá to the world — Aussie Rules is transforming communities in Colombia.
What started with one Sherrin, a few expats, and a kick on a dusty school oval in Bogotá has grown into something extraordinary. Today, AFL Colombia is inspiring hundreds of young Colombians — many from vulnerable backgrounds — to dream big, lead with heart, and find purpose through footy.
In ten short years, footy in Colombia has gone from a backyard experiment to a national movement. We’ve run countless clinics and carnivals with locals across the country. And we’ve welcomed footy royalty, like Josh Kennedy, Errol Gulden, Will Hayward, and Ollie Florent, to training sessions with local kids on fields (of varying quality) in Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena.
Everyone who has contributed to this project knows it’s about more than helping kids to kick a footy — it’s helping rebuild communities, mentor young leaders, and show that the spirit of Australian sport can unite people across continents.
Last year, AFL Colombia made history (with support from public donations on GoFundMe) as the first Latin American nation invited to the AFL Transatlantic Cup in Toronto, proudly coached by Josh Kennedy. For many of the 56 players, it was their first time leaving their hometown — even their first time on a plane. The women’s team claimed their first international win against France, and their celebratory salsa (instead of a huddle and team song) made them instant crowd favourites.
Now, AFL Colombia is ready for its next leap forward — and we need your help.

- Provide boots, uniforms, and equipment for young players who often train with taped-up shoes.
- Support youth leadership and English study scholarships through the Orica Future Leaders Program.
- Launch the AFL Colombia Foundation in Australia, in partnership with the Kennedy family, to collect used sporting gear and send it to Latin American communities.
- Bring young Australians to Colombia to coach, mentor, and share the true spirit of footy.
