A local Afghan family of five, friends of mine here in Richmond, VA, is in urgent need of support. I am organizing this fundraiser on their behalf to protect their safety and privacy. One of the parents worked in human and women’s rights while in Afghanistan, and if anyone deserves a chance to thrive in this country, it is them.

Due to the recent icy conditions, the family is unable to pay their rent for February 1st. Although they have a valid work permit, they are afraid to seek employment because of the risk of being detained. The organizations we know of in our area do not have emergency rent funds available for people in their situation, leaving them with very few options.

The money raised will go directly toward paying their rent. Any extra will help cover utilities, food, or next month's rent if we are still unable to find systemic support. I will receive the funds and make sure they get to the family safely. The photo is me with a family member who needed medical care, with their face covered for protection.
