Never in a million years would I think that I would have to do this. We have been in the hospital for well over a week where my baby girl is dealing with multiple issues; the main being "Aplastic Anemia," which the doctor has prepped us for and mentioned the words, Bone Marrow Transplant. We noticed bruising and bleeding that was abnormal last week which prompted us to go to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, where we have been ever since. We have seen doctors from each department to try to figure out why she still has some bleeding, from infectious disease, kidney, urology to hematology where we are currently under their care. Aela is in good spirits and getting the care she needs. Apparently, this is ultra rare, affecting 2 in 1 million people in the United States, with it being present in children, even less odds. Needless to say we are at a loss, anxiety is high, emotions have taken over and we just want some answers and a path forward for our little girl.
We have had a few blood and platelet transfusions and now seeing that process, you can guarantee I will be vocal about donation, blood drives, and joining the bone marrow registry myself. You do not know what or how things are until they knock on your door, and this is the most difficult thing we have ever had to endure. To all who can and may help, thank you so much. I was trying my hardest to not get to this point, but now all we can do is hope, pray and hopefully receive an answer and a path forward. Much love to the light warriors of the world. Thank you.
