Help Adrian MacDonald Heal: Therapies for 6 months

Donation protected
Cassandra’s 35th birthday is on January 23rd, and this year she only asks for one thing: your help getting Adrian the therapy he needs. This fundraiser's goal is to cover Adrian's physiotherapy and speech therapy for six months, until he can go to a rehabilitation centre.

HOW YOUR DONATION MAKES A DIFFERENCE:

PWYC: will go towards his therapy, thank-you!
$30 = buy a quarter of a Physio/Speech Therapy Session
Either 15 minutes with a Speech Language Pathologist or a Neuro Concepts Physiotherapist
$45 = Buy Adrian's internet at his residence for a month
Cass needs to pay for the internet so he can access helpful music, messages from his friends, and so she can
$60 = buy half a speech therapist (SLP) session
Adrian’s recovery will come with the ability to communicate. Though he’s been improving, a specialist will help him heal faster.
$60 = buy half a physiotherapy session
Neuro Concepts will come in five times a week to work with Adrian, make sure he is using his muscles, and gaining more motor skills.
$120 = buy Adrian a speech therapist (SLP) session
Get Adrian a full hour of work with a Speech Language Pathologist to help him communicate as much as possible.
$120= buy Adrian a physiotherapy session
Adrian needs to get to a level where he can go to the Neuro Concept office and use their equipment, like the walking machine.
$240 = buy Adrian a week of speech therapy (SLP)!
Two full hours of one-on-one work with an SLP to help Adrian communicate and advocate for his needs.
$600 = buy Adrian a week of physiotherapy!
This buys five whole sessions of one-on-one work with physiotherapists specializing in people with TBIs. This will help Adrian keep his muscles strong, gain strength, stability, and tolerance.

WHAT ADRIAN NEEDS:

To get to the stage of rehabilitation where the Quebec government will support him for a while, Adrian needs physiology and speech therapy. Right now, he has just been moved up to working with Neuro Concepts five times a week, and they are trying to work on his tolerance and stimulation so they can next bring him into their office to use their equipment. He will also start working with a speech therapist twice a week. Through the amazing work and love of Cassandra, his family, and the therapists, Adrian is improving, but he needs your help in taking the next step.

WHY:

A year ago, Adrian MacDonald was preparing to start his second semester at Concordia, preparing to become a teacher. He was so passionate about  working with kids, and using his theatre background and positive attitude to inspire the next generation!

In the summer of 2020, Adrian and Cassandra (along with their dogs, Dexter and Daphne) celebrated their Honeymoon with a roadtrip across Canada, stopping to see family and friends. In July, due to a brake failure, the couple were involved in a terrible accident. Their van rolled, and while the dogs were unscathed, Cassandra sustained a concussion, cuts, and some wounds. Adrian was unfortunately thrown from the vehicle, suffering a fractured neck and a major Traumatic Brain Injury. He is still in recovery, now closer to home, in Montreal,  in a minimally conscious state.

Very little is covered by the SAAQ (Quebec Government) and Adrian will only recover if he is given this support. Adrian has essentially fallen in a gap of the system, and we need to help him get out.

Cassandra still has to pay rent, care for the dogs and cat, get to and from Adrian’s residence, pay for his phone line, buy him stimulation equipment and rehabilitation pillows, shoes, and other equipment, and also care for herself. The costs are astronomical, and are made even worse by the current pandemic.

That is why this fundraiser has been started, to help everyone understand the costs, the behind-the-scenes, and that the system is not supporting them, so we have to step up.

Adrian and Cassandra are those kind of people who you wish you could be around always. They’re always ready to help, to support those around them, and they both have so much to give to the world. But now, they need our help. Cass is supporting Adrian full-time, and still needs to pay for rent, as well as the cost of getting to and from Adrian’s long-term care residence. His healing journey means that he needs to work with professional physiotherapists that specialize in TBIs, and Speech Language Pathologists multiple times a week.

It’s not going to be easy, but your donation will help make it a little bit better.

Thank-you so much for your help and, as always, check this page for his continued updates.
