Help Adelyn’s Hip Dysplasia Recovery
Donation protected

Her parents Samantha and Jordan Aizpiri will be by her side for her recovery and deserve financial support for lost work, travel expenses and any therapy tools she may need now or in the future.
Here is her story;
It started with Samanthas’s very first appointment when Addy was a week old, they noticed her hips were ‘stiff’ but said it would fix its self after time and gave her some exercises to do at home with her. Every appointment after that Samantha told them it was still the same, but they told her she may need physio to loosen the muscles.
Just after Addy’s second birthday Samantha went back to her doctor with her concerns. By this age she shouldn’t be waddling when she walked, still HATED diaper changes, wouldn’t sit cross legged or spread her legs, she relied heavily on the hand rail or climbed the stairs using her hands, she stands by pushing herself up with her hands (downward dog position) or rolls to her side, and just does not rotate her legs. Samantha told her doctor that there has to be something else going on, other kids don’t get around like this, so finally they got x-rays.
Samantha was right, unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it. Adelyn was diagnosed with Bilateral Congenital Hip Dysplasia. Both of Addy’s hips are completely dislocated from the socket since birth. They were referred to a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at McMasters in February where they found out the extent of the surgery.
What they’re going to do:
Remove part of Addy’s femur bone, also reshape her pelvic bone and socket on one side, then do the other side 6 weeks later. She’ll be in a cast from the waist down for a total of 3 months, no walking. Once the cast is off she’ll have 3 more moths of physio and will sleep in a brace for a year.
As frustrating as this situation is, the one thing Samatha learned was to really push for clear answers when you’re not feeling sure about something.
Moving forward, the doctors are trying to help them understand as best as they can what’s going to happen and they are planning a lot of fun activities to keep their active and independent girl busy! Hopefully this can also help raise awareness!
