Adia's Recovery Fund

On the night of February 18, 2024, our good friend Adia was in a bike accident in North Portland. They sustained serious face and head trauma, resulting in amnesia and other neurological symptoms (luckily, the rest of their body was relatively unharmed). They have no memory of the accident itself, did not know where they were, and temporarily lost memory of recent life events as well. Thankfully, a close friend was able to locate them and bring them to the hospital, where they spent a very traumatic night trying to get a grasp on what happened.

Adia has been diagnosed with a mild to low-moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI), and is now in the process of undergoing a number of tests and doctor’s visits to determine approaches to rehabilitation. They continue to struggle with bad headaches, fatigue, sensory issues, confusion, and trouble with memory. Their doctors have ordered rest and a number of therapeutic exercises and treatments. The timing of all of this is extremely unfortunate, as Adia is also trying to navigate their very rigorous final semester in graduate school, graduation requirements, and searching for post-grad art and career opportunities and temporary disability support options. As you can imagine, this has all become very difficult. Most experts seem to agree that it can take up to a year to fully recover from a TBI.

While insurance covers part of the treatment Adia needs to heal, there are other forms of therapy they need that are currently cost prohibitive. Some of these include: EMDR, chiropractic sessions, sound healing, and acupuncture. These treatments would help Adia manage symptoms and to heal and regain strength and ability more quickly, allowing them to return to school and other responsibilities on a shorter timeline. We are asking for donations towards these important therapies, as well as for general support with groceries and other basic needs. If money is tight right now, we totally understand. Adia will also gladly accept prayers and positive vibes, mail, and rides/assistance with errands.

If you want to reach out to Adia, they certainly would be happy to feel the love. Please keep in mind that, at this point, long conversations can be taxing, and they are easily worn out. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for your support, whatever form it takes! Adia is such a bright light, a spreader of joy and laughter, an incredible artist, and an integral member of our community. We will continue to update you on their progress as they heal.

Thank you so much,
Linden
