On October 30th, 2024, my mother, Adela, took my daughter for a walk in our neighborhood. As they were crossing the crosswalk, which had a visible STOP sign and was designated for pedestrians, they were struck by an SUV. My mother took the brunt of the impact, and I believe she acted to protect my daughter. Thankfully, my daughter survived the accident but is struggling emotionally with the loss of her grandmother.

My mother was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with severe brain damage and placed on a ventilator to assist with her breathing. Unfortunately, over the past few days, she stopped digesting liquids, her potassium levels dropped, and her body began to swell.

After conducting numerous tests, the doctor sadly declared her brain dead, and she was taken off life support on 11/6/2024. The grief and pain we are enduring are indescribable, and this is a reality we never imagined facing.

As we navigate this incredibly difficult time, we are seeking support to help cover her funeral expenses, as well as medical bills and other costs while we take the time to process this tragedy. Since the accident, our family has been at the hospital every day.
