Help Addye Durant Get Back on Her Feet
Donation protected
While we are in our 6th year of 2025. Addye is in year 10. As the world was experiencing apocalyptic weather, rising prices (tariff’s anyone?) potential dismantling of Medicaid and food insecurity; our friend Addye managed to break her ankle by just walking down the street. A raised sidewalk got in the way! Her vehicle of ten years finally gave up the ghost, so she was using public transportation to get around. She had just been laid off from her job but was able to secure another one. While in the hospital, her boss had to fill the role as it was a temporary gig. Life happens. We get it. Many stitches, pins and toddler cups of applesauce later, Addye was transferred back home by ambulance. There, through no fault of her own, HER OTHER ANKLE WAS BROKEN. Unfreakingbelievable! Addye doesn’t drink and walk let alone drink at all. The worst part -- she was in the middle of relocating as the place she was staying at is being remodeled.
And you thought you had a bad six years in 2025.
The thing is, if you know Addye, you know she never falters in helping others. Her kindness and creativity are her strongest attributes. Don’t let her soft-spoken 5’10” afroed beauty fool you, she’s tough as the nails in both of her ankles. An avid Prince fan, she along with the world really mourned his passing. Unfortunately, her partner of ten years left this plane just a few short years after Prince transitioned. We all know grief is a beast of many faces and she’s just trying to get through this “thing called life” like the rest of us. She’s having a tough time (as we all have) medicaid only covers so much and Addye because of her age and status – well, she needs additional help. She lives alone and doesn’t have any assistance whatsoever to do the most mundane of things. I think some of us understand this situation. Asking for help is difficult especially when you’ve braved life fending for yourself. Addye can’t do it alone any longer. She needs our help.
There’s much more she’s been through that can’t be told here, let’s just say our girl has been through it. We are reaching out to the Purple Community in hopes that ya’ll will come through in solidarity. She’s part of a team that’s volunteering their time (while looking for remote work) to help archive some moments in Prince history. Please see @ArchivingPrince on Instagram. Oh!- check out her collab project with Club Housequake, a Prince positivity learning space. Addye casted, produced, directed, art directed, AND narrated the spectacular live audio drama of Purple Rain on the social audio app Clubhouse. Please follow @ClubHousequake on instagram and click the soundcloud link in the bio. You can also go directly to soundcloud, search & follow Club Housequake to listen!
Because of the type of physical therapy she needs, the immediate housing situation, the tools needed to get around and the uncertainty of when she’d be able to work again, we are looking at an amount that will cover close to a year’s expenses and that includes rent, food, additional physical therapies, walker, boots, scooter, possible additional assistance and anything that Medicaid doesn’t cover including taxes that will be required to pay back for the monies received via GoFundMe. Times are tight and anything is appreciated including your prayers and words of encouragement.
Thank you for being a part of this community and helping our sister out.
