Help Adams Physical and Financial Recovery

Story

from Aaron, Scott, Jacob Elisabeth, Justin & Lindsey:Our longtime friend, Adam Meredith, was hit by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle home on New Years Day 2022. Adam had a tough year in 2021 after going through a difficult separation that led to divorce, losing his father and his beloved dog, Justice. As an only child with no close family remaining, he got through it all by focusing on his passion for art and the relationships he built with friends. On his way home the morning of New Year's day, while riding his motorcycle, he was hit from behind by a drunk driver going over 80 miles per hour. Adam was flown from his bike with so much impact that his helmet flew off and he shattered several bones including his pelvis, ankle, multiple ribs, and his tibia. However, worse than that, he suffered internal bleeding, damage to his organs, and a severe concussion with bleeding and swelling in his brain known as Traumatic Brain Injury. Adam did not text his friends that he arrived home safe that night, and was discovered to be admitted to the hospital as a John Doe. We learned that he was currently in surgery and there was a possibility he might not survive. Adam remained in a coma for weeks, during which time we were unsure if he would ever wake up, and if he did, what he would remember or what his brain function would be. Fortunately, we were blessed with a miracle and after 5 months, 5 long uncertain moths in the hospital, Adam survived not only physically, but eventually regained his memories and full brain functionality, however, surviving the accident was only the beginning of a very difficult road to recovery physically, mentally, and financially. Adam will have to heal his bones and do several months of physical therapy to relearn to walk and care for himself on his own as well as continued visits with a neurologist. He will likely never walk again without an ankle brace and either the assistance of a cane or walker. He is sad because he doesn’t feel he will ever be able to hike again because he has problems with uneven surfaces and stairs and resigned because he didn’t know how he can stand in front of a classroom teaching. And he will always have to live with the aching sensation of the nerve damage and phantom tremors in his foot pins, plates, and screws, placed into his broken bones, the ever present ringing in his right ear, the burns on his leg, scars on his torso, experiencing fear and anxiety every time he rides in a car, issues with short term memory, limited peripheral vision, the reoccurring nightmares that he has about the collision and the tragic knowledge that Adam may never be able to engage in his love of theater or film acting again. While he was in the hospital fighting for his life, in and out of consciousness, he lost 20 pounds, he lost his job, he lost his iPhone and lost his home. Adams utility bills were sent to collections causing his credit score to drop over 150 points. Additionally, his medical bills from an extended stay in the hospital and several lifesaving surgeries, have put him in immense debt,?eating up what little Savings Adam had. The 24 year old drunk driver responsible for his injuries, was underinsured and Adam was advised by legal counsel, that even after pursuing a civil case for damages (that could potentially take years), he will likely not see much of the monies owed to him due to her financial instability.  Adam isn’t someone who ever asks for a handout. Kind and generous to everyone he knows, he finds himself now in need. Unable to return to work and with the mounting cost of medical bills, required nutritional supplementation, physician reccomended regular massage Therapy treatment and  physical therapy that will now be a constant in his life due to these injuries, he needs the help of his friends more than ever.  We ask that you please offer any donation, no matter how small and please share this story with your friends and family. Remind your loved ones to never drive drunk as the potential harm it can cause is permanent. This young lady who was responsible for the accident will likely serve jail time and Adam’s life, while he is blessed to still be alive, will now never be the same. Thank you for listening to his story.
