If you've spent any time in the New England blues, rock, punk, or metal scene over the last twenty-plus years, there's a good chance Adam Signore has pointed a camera at you, written about your band, played your track on his radio show, or designed your band art. I'm Adam's niece, and I'm writing this because right now, for the first time in a long time, Adam needs the community to show up for him the way he's shown up for all of us.
In August, Adam was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, stage 2-3. Anyone who knows him knows he's not the type to ask for help — he's the guy in the photo pit, not the one in the spotlight. But treatment is intense, expensive, and relentless, and it's going to take him away from the work and the people he loves for a while. So I'm asking on his behalf.
Who Adam is, for anyone who hasn't met him:
Adam fell in love with the blues at 12, watching his brother's band play, and never stopped chasing that feeling. After 23 years as an engineer, he turned his attention to local music full-time — building "The List," launching radio shows like The Original Music Showcase, and shooting more concert photography than most people see in a lifetime. He's spent two decades championing bands, labels, and local scenes across New England, usually with a camera in hand.
Simply put: Adam has spent his whole adult life amplifying other people's music. Now we're asking the community he's championed to help amplify him.
A message from Adam to the music community:
Hi folks, Adam here. I'm in something of a pickle and don't think I can make it without your help. If you know me at all, you know I support many communities that revolve around local music, photography, promotion, graphic design, and more. If you've done business with me you know I barely charge anyone anything. It was always my gift to you. So if your band's name showed up on The Weekly List, or your new song on the Original Music Showcase, you'll remember that it typically started with me finding and playing your music. Band photography, music posters. Typically the same thing. Show promotion and the like. You've seen me in the crowd supporting. Most recently I have been on the Board of Directors of The Boston Blues Society and also function as their webmaster.
So why do I tell you all this now? On July 29th I exhibited signs of severe jaundice and was hospitalized. While I viewed this as scary but not deadly, I'd never have been able to predict what came next. Sadly a tumor was found on my pancreas. The situation took quite a left turn. The tumor was causing blockages in my digestive system, which took up about 6 weeks before getting to chemo. A bile duct stent, a stomach outlet stent, a week with a blood infection, couldn't eat solid food for over a month, and lost almost 40 lbs when I desperately needed to bulk up for chemo. Already was on the hook for several thousand dollars before my first treatment. This is a pretty serious challenge and for the first time ever I'll just say it: I'm going to need your help.
