Hi everyone,
My name is Adam and I am writing this on behalf of my wife, Renetta, and her elderly parents, Elizabeth and Bert.
We are currently living in Alberta, but we are desperately trying to get back home to Newfoundland to care for her parents during a severe medical crisis. We are stuck in a difficult position: we need to be there to help them, but due to my current term disability and Renetta working a minimum wage job, we simply cannot afford the travel costs and the expenses required to make the trip.
About seven weeks ago, Renetta’s mother, Elizabeth (78), fell and broke her hip. She was rushed to a hospital in St. John’s for treatment. Her husband, Bert, went to stay by her side to aid in her recovery.
While trying to care for his wife, Bert became ill himself; he began throwing up and eventually fainted. He was admitted to the hospital, where doctors discovered his heart was only functioning at 30%. While Elizabeth was transferred back to their home hospital, Bert had to stay behind to have a defibrillator surgically implanted.
Why We Need Help Now
The separation was devastating for them. Both of their health declined rapidly while they were apart—Elizabeth lost her motivation to recover because Bert wasn't there, and Bert was dealing with his own serious heart condition.
Thankfully, Bert is now home with his defibrillator, but Elizabeth is still struggling. The hospital has told us that unless she makes significant progress, she will have to be moved into a nursing home—something Bert cannot bear.
The Solution
We have been asked to come home to Newfoundland to provide the daily home care and encouragement Elizabeth needs. We believe that with family there to support them, she can recover enough to stay in her own home with her husband.
How You Can Help
Because I am on disability and we are living on a tight budget, we cannot afford to make this trip on our own. Our rent here in Alberta is $2,250 per month, and the flights to get home on such short notice are very expensive.
We are hoping to raise $8,500 to cover these essential costs:
• Travel Expenses: $3,500 for flights to get from Alberta to Newfoundland immediately.
• Living Costs: $4,500 to cover two months of rent and utilities so we don't lose our home in Alberta while we are away caring for them.
We are not asking for luxury; we are just asking for the ability to go take care of our family without losing our own home in the process.
If you can donate anything at all, it would mean the world to Elizabeth, Bert, Renetta, and me. If you cannot donate, please share this link. We just want to give them the chance to stay together in their own home.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
