My name is Luca and I am Adam's partner of over 12 years. Adam was in a car accident 3.5 years ago. Little did we know that this accident would take away Adam's ability to do the things he loved most. Adam is an avid hiker, backpacker, rockhounder, and one of the hardest workers I have ever known. The pain started the day after the accident. First came the chiropractors, then doctors, pain specialists, and finally an orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon decided Adam needed back surgery to fix a bulged disc. During the surgery, he was surprised to find Adam had a birth defect that meant his back had been broken his entire life. The surgery was a total failure and the pain continued. The surgeon sent Adam to a neurosurgeon who in turn decided Adam needed a spinal fusion at 32 years old. 6 months after the fusion, Adam was still in excruciating pain. Numbness in hands and feet accompanied by tingling that felt like being stabbed by glass. All-over body pains, loss of strength in his arms and legs, and cognitive struggles. He quickly became less mobile and could no longer do simple tasks, like getting his socks on. The doctors kept coming, all with different opinions.

Finally, after over 3 years of pain, suffering, and losing out on precious time with family and friends, he was ordered to have an MRI to look at his neck. The answer was right there, clear as can be. Adam was diagnosed with a 11mm Chiari Malformation in his brain. The malformation was pressing on his nerves and his brain was slipping out the base of his skull. We made the terrifying decision to risk everything in hopes of regaining his physical, and mental health, and a life worth living.

Today is the fifth day (9/11) I'm sitting beside his bed in the hospital. He has struggled a lot with pain and his heart rate has dropped into the 20's. He has a long road ahead of him. Getting our family's life back means we need to repay our debts, rebuild his strength, and find emotional relief after years of suffering and two major, unnecessary, surgeries.

After 12 MRIs, 7 CAT scans, 3 major surgeries, and a total of 16 days in the hospital, using all our vacation time, missing a lot of work, and missing out on the prime years of his life, I am here to ask for help. Help to get back to where we started, stable, happy, and enjoying our lives out in nature with our dogs.

We need $4,000 for immediate medical bills. $3100 in lost wages and some money for food and the basics.

Update - Adam has been discharged from the hospital as of Tuesday, September 12th. He is holding down food and moving around more. We are so glad to have him home with us!
