My name is Adam McCrory and I am raising funds to help with costs from the Palisades fire, where my home was partially destroyed, my family remains evacuated, and many of our possessions are gone. I am an emerging artist and recently finished a Masters in Vocal Arts at CSUN, here in Southern California. My family lived in the area since 2002 after we emigrated from Ireland, my parents operated a small family hair salon in downtown Pacific Palisades that was totally destroyed, and I attended Palisades High school which was damaged by fire as well..
I have been performing as a singer with companies in LA that have been affected by fires, and a number of my friends or colleagues in the arts also lost their homes. I was living with family while transitioning between school and work, and so all my possessions from my past and present were at my family home. We have not been allowed back into the neighborhood to assess all the damage, but we have seen from pictures and video that the house is not live-able, and fire has damaged the rooms inside. My bedroom windows were blown out and melted.
Currently I am living in a hotel and continuing to work as much as possible. FEMA has been paying for some January hotel costs, but not all. I lost many possessions, including electronics and work-related materials. A number of performances and concerts were cancelled as a result of the fires, and so I have lost most of my January income. Since my parents have lost their income and home, I am trying my best not to be a financial burden.
You donations will go towards replacing or offsetting:
- Electronics like Yamaha Electronic Piano, Flatscreen TV, computer hardware, air purifier, humidifier, vacuum, etc.
- Music-related items like mic, mic stand, webcam, small musical instruments (possibly guitar)
- Clothes, shoes, blankets, performance wear like nice ties and shirts, dress shoes
- Music books, scores, vinyl, CDs
- Lots of books and wall art
- $1000 of lost Jan income
- More permanent housing
For now I will be trying to work as much as I can, as well as continue my music endeavors even though I have lost much of my ability to practice and work. My normal career work sees me performing with local choirs, churches, and opera companies, as well as teaching music lessons to kids and autistic adults, and assisting with concert productions.
I'm sharing this fundraiser primarily with my friends and colleagues in the arts because you may understand the impact that a disaster like this has on an emerging artist. And you will know that your support is going directly to someone who has been working hard on their career as a singer, performer, and educator.
