In July of 2017 after several months of unexplained pain in his shoulder, Adam Showers was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Multiple Myeloma. Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, it is considered treatable but generally incurable. The average age of a Multiple Myeloma patient is 60- Adam is half that age.
Treatments for Multiple Myeloma can include chemo therapy, injections, pills and a stem cell transplant all to help fight the cancer and manage the pain it causes. These specialty treatments come at a high price and are mostly unavailable in Hawaii.
In order to aggressively fight this cancer, Adam will need to travel back and forth to the mainland for treatment and will not be able to maintain steady employment during this process. It's still uncertain how long Adam may need to be away, so the hope is that Erica and Ira may be able to join him at some point during this time of his care.
Adam is a son, husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. He has a compassionate and loving spirit and always sees the good in every situation. The same has been true even in the midst of his cancer diagnosis. Adam has continued to be a rock for his wife Erica and daughter Ira while managing discomfort, doctor appointments and continuing to work to provide for their family.

It is incredibly humbling to be in a place of asking for help, but we believe in community and the power of prayer. We've been encouraged to ask for support as the weight of this situation is too much to carry alone- and we want to share what is having a huge impact on our lives at this time. Part of the goal is of course to raise funds, but please don't feel any pressure or obligation to give financially. What we do ask from anyone reading this is to support us in prayer over this next year of treatments. For anyone who is able to donate, the funds will be used to help directly cover medical bills, travel expenses, and other medical and practical costs for this season. We are trusting God to provide and care for us, and we have hope in his faithfulness! Thank you!
