If you've ever been in a room with Adam, you know it. He's the one making everyone laugh, the one with the wildest idea, the one who somehow convinced you to let him wire your golf cart with LED lights and a bluetooth speaker. The same guy who has decked out his friend Korey's wheelchair with a karaoke machine, a disco ball, and a bubble machine – and in doing so, brings an unbelievable amount of happiness to Korey and to everyone who sees him roll in.
Adam, 45, is the life of every party, the heart of every room, and the kind of person who makes the world more fun just by being in it. He's the first one to show up when something needs fixing and the last one to leave when someone needs company. He has spent years doing work that truly matters – helping design and install state-of-the-art active shooter alarm systems in schools and buildings across the country, work that has the potential to save thousands of lives.
That's Adam. He gives his time, his creativity, and his whole heart in everything he does. And now, he is also fighting stage 4 colon cancer.
The diagnosis came fast and hit hard. The cancer has spread to his liver and lymph nodes, and last week Adam started chemotherapy – the beginning of what will be a long and grueling road. The man who is always the one lifting everyone else's spirits is now the one who needs us.
But here's the thing about Adam: he is already showing up to this fight the same way he shows up to everything – with stubborn optimism and his signature grin. Because he has everything to fight for.
He has Noah. His five year old son, his whole heart, his reason. Together they've spent countless hours at the playground, “Noah's beach,” racing monster trucks across the living room floor. Adam has taught Noah to swim, ride his bike, and jump off the diving board. He's the little boy Adam has been showing the world to. To Noah, his dad isn't sick. He's still the biggest, funniest, most invincible person in the world. Adam is fighting to stay that person for as long as he can.
He has Panita, his devoted partner and Noah's mom, who is holding their family together with grace and love. He has our parents, who should never have to face what they are facing right now. No parent should. He has siblings who grew up with him, drove each other crazy, and would do absolutely anything for him. He has a nephew who adores him, and more friends than most people make in a lifetime – all of us watching, helpless, wishing we could do more.
This is us doing more.
The costs of fighting cancer are staggering – chemotherapy, specialist visits, medications, follow-up care. And while Adam battles for his life, his family still needs a roof over their heads, food on the table, and the stability that lets him focus on one thing: getting better.
Every dollar raised here goes directly to supporting Adam, Panita, and Noah through this. If you can give – $10, $25, $50, whatever you can spare – it matters more than you know. And if giving isn't possible right now, please share this page. Adam has touched so many lives. Let's make sure those lives show up for him.
He has always been the brightest light in the room. Let's help keep that light burning.
With all my love – Amanda, Adam's baby sister
