My name is Julian Meraz. I am 21 years old, and I am currently homeless and running from an abusive household. I had made the decision to cut off my family last January, in hopes of improving my mental health. My mother is extremely homophobic and physically abusive, and I decided to try living independently. However, over the past year COVID-19 and several unexpected events made it incredibly difficult for me to find and keep housing and employment, and by December of last year, I was homeless and out of money. I felt like I had no choice but to return to my mother, since I would at least have guaranteed food and housing if I returned to Houston.
The month since then has not gone well. I have since been thrown out of my mother's house, and am currently staying with a friend while I figure out where to go from here. Going back to Massachusetts would be the best option for me, because I need to 1. work on going back into school, and 2. My health insurance will not pay for my meds nor my therapy services while out of state. The good news is, I have an opportunity to get some housing ASAP: My best friend has a room open for me to sublet in Waltham (where my university is located) for very very cheap, providing me with stable housing and a chance to leave Houston.
The only catch is, I need to come up with money to pay for rent + the security deposit as well as a way to pay for transportation back to Mass, and I need to pay the rent + deposit by the 28th. The $1,600 raised will be used as followed.
- $1,400 is the 1st month's rent ($600) along with the security deposit ($800),
- $295 would cover the transportation fees to get back to Waltham in time for February 1st (I got my wallet stolen and am currently awaiting my ID by the mail, but I don't think I'll receive it in time. I am unable to board a plane without a passport or ID). The fees are broken down as follows:
- $30 for the Greyhound Ticket from Houston to New Orleans,
- $200 for the Amtrak Train to Baltimore,
and $65 for the Amtrak Train from Baltimore to Boston.
I need to raise the money to travel back as soon as possible so that I can book the tickets before the 27th! I know that these are deadlines that are approaching fast so I beg you guys from the bottom of the heart to help me so that I can have a place to live when I go back to Massachusetts. Please share this gofundme, because I really really really need to get away from Houston (especially because of the increased risk of catching COVID-19, given that I am immunocompromised).
