OUR MISSION IS TO SEEK TREATMENT AT SHRINERS HOSPITAL IN MONTREAL (CANADA). HELP ME GET THIS MESSEGE ACROSS AND GET HIS VOICE HEARD.
My cousin Abdul Raqip is 10 years old. He lives in the western province of Herat in Afghanistan. Since birth he has suffered multiple bone fractures and breaks. It’s like his bones are made of glass. My aunt and uncle couldn’t figure out what had happened to their son. There has been no medical diagnosis or medical treatment. Only through my research did I discover that his condition has a name: brittle bone disease or osteogenesis imperfecta.
Abdul is the youngest boy in a family of five. His father is a teacher at a local school and a teacher's salary in Afghanistan is only $100 a month. Given the dire situation of Afghanistan and since the Islamic regime has gained control, the salaries of all government officials ceased, meaning that his father as a breadwinner has lost his income. My aunt is a stay at home mom and like most rural Afghan women, is illiterate.
Abdul has never been to school. The last time I spoke to him he told me that he doesn’t want to live anymore. He feels the pain of his bones, and the burden he is putting on his family is too much. Abdul can’t walk and every movement he makes fractures his bones. It’s been a desperate situation until I discovered that there is a hospital in Canada, where I live, that can help. There is no cure for osteogenesis imperfecta, but there are infusions and treatments that can strengthen his bones and help him with his pain. Surgery can help to align some of the bones. With your help, we can turn his impossible dream into reality. Abdul wants to see if treatment can help him take his very first step.
Being a mother myself I cannot imagine watching your own son suffer everyday and knowing that you cannot do anything to help. With our help we can give this family hope.
I want to help life the burden my cousin Abdul feels and help him see that he has a right to be here on this planet and that he has a lot to contribute.
Abdul lives in Afghanistan and his family can not afford either option, it requires the family to travel to other countries to get the help they need. The money raised will be used for the following treatments:
• Care of fractures
• Surgery
• Rodding - a procedure to insert a metal bar the length of a long bone to stabilize deformities
• Dental procedures
• Physical therapy
• Assistive devices, such as proper wheelchairs, braces, and other custom-made equipment
•Education- school fees
Help me fight for this cause. Regardless of how small the donation is, it will help. I also encourage you to share his story with people you know or social media platform, may God reward you !
