My name is Anne McClard. I am a co-founder of Aristata Press (https://aristatapress.com), a non-profit publishing company dedicated to bringing literature to print that traditional publishers would not likely publish. Our authors come from many walks of life and have important stories and literary art to share that concerns intercultural, intersectional, and social issues relevant to modern times. This is a targeted fundraiser on behalf of the authors to defray the cost of producing their book.
Abuk Makuac, a dedicated peace educator, and Susan Clark, a refugee trauma specialist, together have written a powerful book, and it is now being professionally edited and slated for publication in 2023. The cost of a professional editor for their book is $3,500.
Your donated funds will go directly to paying for editing, and if any funds remain, toward distribution, and marketing costs associated with publishing No Place for Peace.
No Place for Peace: A Memoir documents the experiences of one woman among many that were thrust into the hardships of civil war in South Sudan during the violent struggle for independence from 1983 to 2011. It explores the question, What becomes of a good person when placed in the worst circumstances imaginable? Coming from a middle-class background in South Sudan, Abuk Makuac and her young son are plunged without warning into hunger and homelessness, far from her homeland and stripped of all comforts she has known. She must fight daily to feed her son, gives birth in exile, and tries to keep alive hope where there is none. She finds solace in community with other women and emerges with her goodness intact, but not without paying a heavy price. This book invites us to witness, in both picture and story, the power of female resilience not only in one life but also in the life of a nation.
This IS NOT a fundraiser for the people of Sudan. Any money donated will go directly to Aristata Press to spend on the production of this book. Aristata Press is a US-based non-profit. Aristata Press will pay the contracted editor directly. If funds over the goal amount are collected, and not needed for the production and/or marketing of this book, they will go into a general fund that is used to pay for US copyright registrations, purchase of ISBNs, US Library of Congress Registration, and legal reviews for this and other books we produce.
