Help Abuelita Rebuild After Apartment Fire

Donation protected
201 W. 107th Street, Apt 2 has been my 96-year-old abuelita’s home for more than 40 years. It’s where she built her life, her routines, and her memories. Earlier this week, a devastating fire broke out in her apartment building, starting on the 6th floor and spreading down to the 4th. Although my grandmother lives on the 2nd floor and her apartment was not directly burned, the damage from smoke, water used to extinguish the fire, and asbestos exposure has caused the building to be deemed condemned. As a result, my abuelita and my dad have been suddenly displaced. The Red Cross has temporarily placed them in a hotel in the Bronx, but they only have six days remaining there. Our immediate goal is to find safe, stable housing for my grandmother as close as possible to her longtime neighborhood, where all of her doctors, support systems, and sense of familiarity are. Starting over at 96 years old is something no one should have to face, and yet here she is—trying to navigate an unimaginable situation. We are asking for help to cover housing costs, relocation expenses, and basic necessities during this incredibly difficult transition. Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean the world to our family. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing or keeping our abuelita in your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and compassion. News coverage of the fire can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/d7B5l-a45PQ?si=mKJuSSd4kjrHwQax
