Help Abu Median's Family Survive Sudan's War
Donation protected
I’m raising funds for our good friend Abu Median. When I lived in Sudan, Abu was a dear friend, translator, and driver for Unity High School where we worked. He endeared himself to many of the international teachers with his gentle demeanor, positive beliefs, and generous personality. He is a dedicated father and a humble, hardworking person who encompasses the best of Islam and humanitarianism. We knew we would miss him terribly when we left.
The Sudanese overthrow of the dictator was a joyous moment in history. Sadly, since then, the political situation has declined into two rival power-hungry factions fighting for control.
This ongoing civil war has meant massive destruction of property, infrastructure, educational facilities, and jobs. Our friend Abu is struggling to keep his family safe and protected. Despite these hardships, his older children have worked hard to continue their education beyond high school and university.
Abu has had to creatively and through perseverance recalibrate his earning ability by getting part-time employment as a receptionist. However, fighting is never far away or infrequent. There is a constant threat of destruction and/or displacement. Artillery and mortar attacks, bombing and fires, are regular occurrences that his family must endure.
Abu has tried unsuccessfully to get his family out of Sudan. The odds are against him. All the family must have passports and visas, which are almost impossible to get and are very costly. Refugees are being turned away from the borders with Ethiopia, Egypt, and Libya. Refugee camps are vulnerable to attacks from either side of the combatants. Should he somehow be able to get his family across a border, neighboring countries are vigilant about sending undocumented individuals back to Sudan if discovered. This makes employment or school outside of Sudan unlikely.
Abu and his family are essentially stuck in a civil war-torn country, doing their best to survive and thrive despite their hardships and lack of funds.
Due to the tentative and unstable nature of Abu’s situation, we would like to supplement his income or replace his income should that become necessary. We would like to aid in helping his family to get the help that they need, whether it be medical care, food, education fees, transportation, clothing, or any other basic need. Please help us support Abu and his family. You can be sure it will be going to a most deserving individual who, through no fault of his own, is facing drastic, crisis-level circumstances.
The funds will be transferred by me directly into an account that Abu can access. He will use the funds to pay for school fees and also to supplement his small income to support his family with food, clothing, and medical care.
The war in Sudan gets little media attention, and the cessation of USAID funds directly affects our friend. We can do our small part to make up for the cruel policies of the current US administration by contributing to Abu’s well-being. Thank you.
