Help ABSC support Bering Sea Crabbers!

Donation protected
Alaska's Bering Sea crab fishermen continue to face difficult times with historic low harvest levels or closed fisheries. The snow crab fishery is closed for the second year in a row and Bristol Bay red king crab is open again with the lowest harvest on record. These closures are killing hard-working family fishing businesses.

This fundraising effort is for Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers*, the small non-profit trade association advocating for crab fishermen who fish for king, snow, and bairdi crab. Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers advocates for a sustainable crab fishery and for our fishermen. We are actively pushing for more conservation measures to rebuild Bering Sea crab stocks and to keep them sustainable. We are also working to expedite federal fishery disaster declarations for our vessels, fishermen, and crew. We have already had success in speeding up several steps in the fishery disaster process that would not have happened without Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers.

In addition to helping Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers, a portion of your donation (25%) will go directly to crab fishermen and crew through programs that offer job retraining, educational scholarships, and certifications programs, etc. We will help skippers and crew, many of whom have worked on crab boats for 10-20 years, land on their feet and find good paying, stable jobs.

With some extra conservation measures, Bering Sea crab fisheries are expected to recover to levels that can again support viable fisheries in the years to come. In the meantime, please consider supporting our organization so we can continue to advocate for crab fishermen and the resource. Without immediate financial help, Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers, the main organization advocating for crab fishermen, will go out of business.

Thank you for your generosity, and any amount helps!
