I write this with a very heavy heart. My brother Abraham had a very traumatic accident on Sunday evening. He's ok. With his true Western NY roots (I make a bad joke) , he was lighting fireworks for his neighbors and friends (as he has done a 100 times before) only this time, it was a faulty wick and it blew up before he could run away. I regret to say that he lost three fingers on his right hand. At this point, we are very fortunate that he lost his fingers and not his face. He was rushed to the hospital where he stayed for four days as he also punctured his belly close to his heart from pieces of debris.
As you can imagine, he has a long road to recovery. He is in pain both emotionally and physically. He has ringing in both his ears. His spirits are up though .. and in true Haick form, so is his humor [Think: surfer dude ... with the way his hand looks]
I am writing all of you because as you may know, Abe is in the construction business and until his hand heals for this round of recovery he is unable to work. Not only that, I imagine that his medical bills are going to be through the roof. My hope in reaching out to all of you is that this monetary support from our family and friends will help him to feel supported and lift his spirits. Any little bit will help him and his family as he figures out this new life. And, I understand that this is a tiring and trying time for everyone so no pressure, at all - prayers are always welcomed and so very helpful. Powerful even.
