My name is Abigail Cameron, I’m 24 years old and I am a big believer in the leverage of technology for sustainability.
I was born and raised in Fletcher's Land, in the West Kingston region of Jamaica and completed my undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College in the United States. I will commence my graduate education at the American University of Rome, where I will be pursuing an M.A. in Food Studies, for sustainable production and consumption, and specifically, I will be delving into the Mathematical techniques and technological approaches that could be deployed to model agricultural systems (with emphasis on developing nations).
In an effort to pursue my studies I require funding. I humbly ask for financial assistance to aid in covering tuition, and housing. Enrollment in the program is expected by June 1, 2021.
Anything would be greatly appreciated.
For more information about me (experience, resume, etc.), you can find it on my portfolio.
Now one might ask why I am interested in the agro-industry specifically and I think the best answer I could give is:
First, as someone who was born and raised in Jamaica, to a family of farmers, it is disheartening to know that about 78 per cent of the world’s poorest people live in rural areas— this close to 800 million people- living in areas that rely largely on farming, livestock, aquaculture and other agricultural work to put food on their plates and make a living.
Secondly, studies have shown that we need to produce 50% more nutritious food in order to feed 9 billion people by the year 2050, and the best and likely only way to achieve this is via boosting agriculture in developing countries. So, not only could agriculture be one of the most powerful tools to raise the income of the poorest in this world, but it is also relevant for every single person to be completely invested in the future of agriculture.
Breakdown of expenses:
Tuition Full-Time: $25,000
Board: $19,050
Books: $1, 500
Total: $45,550
