Help Abi get an accessible bed and fund moving costs!

Abi is a final-year biochemistry student, looking to start a master's degree after finishing her undergraduate degree. She is disabled, notably with EDS and chronic fatigue, which means she needs to use a wheelchair to get around and must portion her energy out diligently. She has been able to complete her degree at a part-time pace, with a couple of breaks in between when her conditions flared up. Abi is fiercely passionate about biochemistry, but also about disability activism, which she has pursued adjacent to her studies. She has visited Parliament to discuss disabled access with MPs, participated in numerous focus groups advocating for disabled access, managed a free holiday art box to help disabled youth find community, and much more. If that wasn't already enough, Abi is also an avid artist and sells or donates her work. Her uni work has prevented significant focus here, but she wants to develop this as much as she can!

Abi has big ambitions about the future - she wants to enter a master's program in biochemistry or an adjacent field, and continue building her disability activism career while building her art portfolio and business on the side.

In order to do this, Abi needs a better bed. She is in bed for most of her day, with some days only able to leave for one or two hours at a time. We have collected quotes from accessibility companies for beds which are adjustable in height, allowing her to get in and out of bed without expending as much energy, and whose durability can withstand more than the typical 8 hours most people spend in bed. This type of bed would enable her to be more independent and contribute to her goals and passions. The cost for the bed is approximately £3,500.

In addition, we are also looking to move house, as our current place is just too expensive. It is accessible, but we can no longer afford it and need to move. When we moved back in 2022, we paid £1,000 for a moving company to help us move and reassemble everything. It was such a relief to have this service and moving without it would be a significant burden.
