Help Abeer Leave Gaza and Reach St Andrews University
Donation protected
Dear friends and compassionate supporters,
My name is Mahmoud Almassri, a student from Palestine currently living in Scotland. I’m reaching out for help on behalf of my sister, Abeer Almassri, a determined young woman from Gaza. Abeer has been accepted into the University of St Andrews for the 2025-2026 academic year, supported by the prestigious STEPS scholarship.
Originally, Abeer was set to begin her studies in 2024, but the war and border closures prevented her from leaving. Tragically, our family has faced unimaginable loss, including the killing of loved ones in the war and the destruction of our home. Yet, despite everything, Abeer's determination to pursue her education remains unwavering.
The Challenge:
To leave Gaza, Abeer must cross the Rafah border into Egypt. Sadly, the only realistic way out is through brokers, who charge between $5000 and $10000, depending on the situation. This has been widely documented as the reality for Palestinians seeking safe passage (The Guardian ).
Once in Egypt, Abeer will need to apply for her UK student visa and wait for approval, requiring a short stay with basic living expenses.
How Your Donation Will Help:
The funds raised will primarily cover:
- Rafah Crossing Broker Fees: To secure Abeer's safe passage out of Gaza.
- Short Stay in Egypt: To support her basic living expenses while she awaits her visa.
The majority of the funds will go toward securing her exit from Gaza. Any remaining amount will support her stay in Egypt during the visa process until she leaves to Scotland.
Why It Matters:
Abeer's journey represents more than personal ambition,it's a testament to resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship. By supporting her, you are not just funding education but standing with someone who refuses to let conflict define her future.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will bring her one step closer to safety, opportunity, and hope.
Thank you for your kindness and solidarity.
