Help Get Abe Home to Teddy
Donation protected
Hi this is Milt. My Cousin Abe has always been like a brother to me. Our Mothers were identical twins and we were born six days apart in the same hospital.
Abe has recently been battling cancer. After suffering a devastating and unexpected gastrointestinal reaction to a newer treatment, leading to a fifty pound weight loss and dehydration, Abe collapsed at home and was hospitalized.
Unfortunately, after some days in the hospital, Abe not only suffered a Covid infection but he became further de-conditioned. Despite transferring to a rehabilitation center, he developed a new baseline of not being able to stand and walk or get himself to the bathroom. Abe then unfortunately, due to lack of other options and financial reasons, needed to move to another facility with less ability to meet his more involved care needs.
During all of this time the past few months, Abe has had only limited visits when possible with his beloved dog and companion Teddy. For anyone who knows Abe, Teddy is his "right hand dog" and true best friend.
Thankfully more recently, between visits spent with immediate family, close friends and myself, as well as the talk of the possibility of going home again, Abe has made some improvement. He was recently able to be transferred out of his bed in to a wheelchair and go in to communal rooms during a visit with his son and Teddy, during which his mood and mental clarity significantly improved. Abe was over the moon and Teddy too!
In closing, it is my hope and his families hope, that we can get Abe home to his Beloved Teddy! After doing some research on home care agencies in his area, including cost and hours needed, it has become clear that Abe's only route for coming home will be to fundraise to pay for his care needs. Care will include giving assistance for meals, bathing, toileting, dressing, physical transfers, medication administration, physical rehabilitation, etc. However, the benefit of Abe being able to go home and be with Teddy and family will be just as significant as the needed care. Won't you please join me to help Abe get home to Teddy?
P.S. Dog treats also welcome.
A message from Teddy:
“Hey everybody, sorry if I look a little sad in the picture, but I’m used to having Abe next to me when we watch our shows. Since he got that cancer thing, he’s been stuck in a stinky place. I went there! They have really nice ladies taking care of him, but they’re busy with too many sick people, and not enough of them to walk him. And y’know, Abe is supposed to walk ME, so it’s a problem! If you can, put some money in the Go Fund Me, so we can get Abe out of that place he’s in (kinda smells like old pee there, and not in a good way), and get him back in our house, where he can have his own seat next to me! and people taking care of just Abe all the time, so he can get stronger and walk, and make a big fuss over his best friend, me, Teddy. Ok, Bye!"
