Dear Friends,

I am reaching out to you today not only as Abdus’s colleague, but as his wife and best friend, with a heart full of hope and vulnerability.

Our world changed overnight when Abdus was unexpectedly diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in November 2024. With no warning signs, his kidney function dropped by 90% within a year, and he was thrust into the exhausting routine of dialysis three times a week, along with a whirlwind of tests and treatments. Just as we were coming to terms with this, we received the distressing news that Abdus now requires bypass surgery to clear him up for transplant. He will be undergoing the bypass surgery at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga the week of October 6th. Abdus is covered under OHIP (provincial health insurance) for the latter surgery.

Despite everything, Abdus continues to amaze me with his strength, optimism, and unwavering love for our family. At just 53, he is a devoted husband and father who inspires us every day with his resilience and determination to keep fighting for a better future.

The only real hope for Abdus to regain his health and freedom from dialysis is a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, the wait time for a transplant in Canada is at least five years—time we simply don’t have. Waiting that long could have irreversible effects on his health. So, we are exploring options abroad at a reputable medical institution, with myself and our children stepping forward as potential donors.

This journey is not only emotionally overwhelming but also comes with a significant financial challenge. The estimated cost for the transplant, travel, and related medical expenses is $120,000. We have managed to gather half this amount, but the remaining sum is daunting for us to face alone.

This is why I am reaching out to you, our friends, colleagues, and community, for support.
