I am Rafaat Ludin, a resident of Abiquiu, New Mexico. I want to appeal to you today on behalf of Br. Abdul Wadud (Donn E.) Blackmore. He has been a resident of Abiquiu for the past 45 years and has worked in the construction of Dar al Islam. Specifically, he has worked extensively in building the "7-8-windows" of the Mosque and Madrasa building. Additionally, the construction of the small triangular room with a New Mexico flat roof in the women's mosque was his idea. He is also an artist participating in the Abiquiu Studio Tour and has been a valuable asset for our community. Br. Abdul Wadud is mashallah 83 years old, and he needs our help and support in his hour of need.
Some time back, his landlord passed away, and the inheritors have classified his rented house as not suitable for living and will tear it down. He has time until March 15th (so, middle of Ramadan) to vacate the house. His rent was in the low hundred-dollar range, which was adequate given his social security payments of just under $1000. Alternative housing is more in the range of $1500 and higher, which is completely outside his financial capabilities.
This GoFundMe account has been created to help him avoid becoming homeless, which is around a month away from today.
Will you help out a community member, an older brother, an elder of our community, and one of the first Muslim residents of Abiquiu overcome this difficult situation?
