Help Abdo to rebuild his Beirut home

PLEASE HELP ABDO PHARAON TO REBUILD HIS BEIRUT HOME.

The explosion that devastated Beirut on August 4th has left us all heartbroken. I can't find the words to capture the weight of the tragedy of this day - the lives that were lost and the endless suffering that continues. There are still no real answers to why and how - but Beirut was not at war.  This was one of the largest explosions in history and it occurred suddenly, without sense or reason. The devastation is hard to describe.

This is Abdo Pharaon, my dear neighbour and friend for the past years. He is a pillar of our sweet neighbourhood in Gemmayze, he knows everyone by their name, and not a day goes by without seeing him. He survived this tragedy by a miracle. But his house - the house he was born in and where he lived all his life - was totally destroyed.

Abdo's great-grandfather built this house 200 years ago.  He lived here with his children beside him until the explosion.  He said that all that is left now is his passport, everything else has gone. This was his only home, and he doesn't want to leave it.

I am touch with Abdo's family to help set up this fundraising page in the hope that we can help this dear man to rebuild his home.
The immediate priorities are now to rebuild and reconstruct (without demolishing) the house. This must be done urgently before winter hits and the rain comes inflicting even more damage. All funds raised will be dedicated for this purpose. The estimated costs of returning the house to normal are between $600,000 and $900,000. For anyone these numbers are overwhelming, but for families in Lebanon, who since October 2019 have not been able to access their money from the bank due to the ongoing political and economic crisis, it is impossible without help.

Photos of Abdo, his home, his words are being shared all over social media. Given the enormous destruction of his home, there is no better way to help now than raising money for him directly so that he can start this work immediately and according to his own priorities. I realised that if only my friends here donate 100$ each, I can send 75,000$ to Abdo and give him this chance. Given how many people have been touched by his picture and words, I really hope we can do even more than that.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about how to help. I had left my home in Beirut a few days before the explosion but will be returning in October and will meet with Abdo and his family then. Meanwhile, I will send all the money raised directly to his son Tony as soon as this campaign is complete. DONATIONS ARE ACCEPTED IN ALL MAJOR CURRENCIES.

With love and much hope for better days,

Annabel
