Help Transform Abdi Gaab's Life: A Beacon of Hope in Dagahaley Refugee Camp

Introduction:

After several years in the U.S., I recently returned to Dagahaley Refugee Camp, where I lived for nearly two decades before resettling in America. The harsh realities of camp life remain unchanged, and refugees continue to face immense challenges daily. During my visit, I returned to Dagahaley Secondary, my alma mater from 19 years ago, and met Abdi Gaab, a security guard and a beloved father figure to many students over the years.

Abdi Gaab's Story:

Abdi Gaab, now 74 years old, has been a pillar of support for the students at Dagahaley Secondary. Known for his humility and dedication, Abdi has always been there to assist students facing difficulties, whether with teachers or amongst themselves. Despite earning a meager wage of only $65 (KSH 8,000) per month, Abdi continues to support an extended family of 19 without any additional benefits or pension.

Why This Matters:

Abdi Gaab's unwavering commitment to the students and his community, despite his challenging circumstances, is truly inspiring. At his age, he deserves to retire with dignity and comfort, yet he continues to work tirelessly to make ends meet. It's time for us to give back to someone who has given so much to others.
