Hi, my name is Abby. I’m a single mom, and I recently moved to Charlotte from Alabama to build a better life for me and my child. The same week we arrived, I bought my 2019 Kia Soul, our first reliable car to start over in a new city. The day before Thanksgiving, my car was stolen right out of my apartment complex. Less than 24 hours later, police found it completely totaled after a wreck on Hwy 49 near Lake Wylie Apartments in York County, SC. I included a photo that shows what was left. The entire back end was destroyed. Every airbag deployed. My car was unrecognizable.

This car was everything to me. I have no family here in Charlotte and the only support I have are my 2 friends that lives close by. It was my only way to take my child to school and appointments, get groceries, and simply manage daily life. And the timing of this has made everything even harder. Just days before the crash, I got the heartbreaking news that my grandmother is dying. She was sent home from hospice, and I had planned to drive back to Mississippi for Thanksgiving to see her one last time. Now I can’t go. I don’t have transportation. I don’t have a way to get home to my family during one of the hardest moments of our lives.

Insurance is helping with part of the loss, but it’s not enough for me to get another reliable vehicle. I had just purchased this car in June and never imagined something like this would happen right as I was trying to rebuild my life. I’m asking for help to get another dependable car so I can take care of my child and hopefully make it to Mississippi to see my grandmother.
