Abby is a bright and resilient young girl living with scoliosis, a condition that causes her spine to curve in ways it shouldn’t. For Abby, this means frequent doctor appointments, wearing a brace, and thinking about her back in ways most kids her age don’t have to. Sometimes, it can feel really lonely, especially when people don’t fully understand what it’s like. That’s why Higgy Con means so much to her. Higgy Con is a special event where kids and teens with scoliosis come together—no explaining needed. It’s a chance to meet people who truly understand, hear their stories, and finally feel like you belong. Abby is working to raise money to help cover the travel costs to get there this July, and it would mean everything to be in a space where she feels seen and supported. At the same time, Abby has realized how important it is to support other kids on this journey too. Earlier this year, she started a fundraiser to donate Higgy Bears to her clinic—special bears that help kids feel comforted when they are getting fitted for a brace. During a recent orthopedic appointment, her nurse practitioner shared that a new surgeon had joined and didn’t yet know about Higgy Bears. That made Abby realize there are even more kids who need that kind of support. So she is continuing her efforts with a second fundraiser. This time, Abby is raising money to provide Higgy Bears with incision scars for kids going through spinal surgery. These bears help kids see that they’re not alone and that what they’re going through is understood. Every donation helps put one into the hands of a child who needs comfort, courage, and connection. If you’re able to donate, you’re supporting two meaningful goals: helping Abby get to Higgy Con and helping other kids with scoliosis feel less alone. If you can’t donate, sharing this post means just as much. Thank you for believing in Abby and helping her support others on this journey.
