She and her young daughter Ainhoa experienced 7 days without power, and the pipes burst in their apartment. Their ceiling caved in, flooded the unit, and destroyed most of their essential items, including furniture and clothing. The high deductible for renters insurance and the lengthy claims process create an immediate and urgent need for funds.
As a self-employed massage therapist, Abby's clientele have experienced financial hardships during the pandemic, so her wages have taken a hit.
