Help Abbie beat Lyme!

Hello everyone!

I'm Abbie, I'm 19 years old, and I am raising money to pay for treatment for chronic Lyme disease. For years, this illness has caused me to have seizures, migraines, brain fog, unbearable fatigue and more, and has now reached a point that I am unable to live my life or continue my dream of graduating from Johns Hopkins University as a physicist. Although Congress is currently looking at changing this policy, insurance companies are not required to pay for Lyme disease treatment past the patient's first two weeks of medication. This is why I need your help paying for medical care. I was once many things: a physics student at Johns Hopkins University, a lifelong Girl Scout, an avid reader, and a crew team member, and my hope is that after receiving the medical treatment I need, I will be able to go back to enjoying all those parts of my life.

It all started in middle school, when I got bit by one little tick. The symptoms started small, with mild depression and occasional anxiety, but over the years, everything got much, much worse. I started having pulsing migraines, extreme fatigue, digestive issues, and more. It all came to a head in freshman year of college, when I began having seizures. They happened all the time, 24/7, and no one could figure out how to make them stop. Tens of doctors later, we found an answer. Chronic lyme disease and mold toxicity.

Once we knew what was wrong, I went straight into treatment. However, we didn’t realize that chronic lyme disease treatment is not covered by health insurance. We finally found a solution, and it had a hefty $68,000 price tag on it, not including the costs of testing, medications, or travel.

This is where I need your help. Chronic lyme disease treatment is my ticket back to a normal life, where I get to follow my dreams of studying at Johns Hopkins University and becoming a physicist. I cannot wait to be able to walk onto campus, pain-free and ready to learn. I cannot wait to become the amazing friend, sister, daughter, and partner I know I can be.
