Help Abbas kick Leukemia

Donation protected
My 14 year old nephew Abbas Romero was just diagnosed with Leukemia on January 14, 2021. Abbas is a very high-spirited, vivacious, energetic and loving 8th grader. He is an avid soccer player who has participated in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and has played in several state level championships for CRSA.

On January 13 2021,  what we thought was going to be a short visit to the ER for appendicitis turned our world around. Abbas was diagnosed with leukemia and is now at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s hospital where an exceptional team of doctors, nurses and support staff are diligently working to get him better. Abbas’s official diagnosis is B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for which he is going to be receiving ongoing aggressive chemotherapy, over the course of what is anticipated to be at least a month long hospital stay. After Abbas comes home from the hospital, he will have several more chemotherapy sessions over the next 6-9 months, each session including at least a 1 week hospital stay. This will be followed with outpatient chemo for 2 years beyond that. Abbas is staying very positive and is in good spirits, and is spreading joy dribbling soccer ball as he goes for his walks everyday :).

We are asking for your help as our family gears up for what will be a long road for all of us, especially Abbas. We are trying to raise $100,000 to cover medical and necessary expenses.
My sister and brother in law are the only people allowed to be with Abbas in the hospital at this point due to Covid restrictions. Namira and Ricardo both work 2 jobs 7 days a week. They will both have to cut back their work hours significantly to be there for Abbas in the most meaningful way.

Please help our family at this incredibly difficult time, as we do everything that we can to support Abbas, and help him beat leukemia. There are so many things for us to consider as we start this journey, and your incredible support will make it easier for us to support Abbas and give him exactly what needs as he begins this fight. Thank you in advance for helping us, we can’t tell you how grateful we are for your support and prayers.

Additional context: My name is Midhat Mansoor and I live with my family in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Namira is my younger sister and lives 6 houses away. We are an extremely close knit family and are hit very hard with this diagnosis. Namira and her husband Ricardo have 2 kids Abbas (14) and Sofia (12). They moved to Cedar Rapids Iowa in 2015 when Namira got a job at St Luke’s Hospital as a nurse. Namira also works at Living Center West on the weekends. Ricardo works as a chef at Biaggis and Cheddars restaurants.
