Help Abandoned Kitten with Surgery for Broken Back Leg

Donation protected
These are quotes directly from Sabi who found the abandoned kitten left in the middle off the interstate:

"My friend was driving to Gahanna along I-670, and I happened to see what looked like a dead kitten in between the lanes of traffic. Just as I said, “aw, poor baby” a little head popped up from the furry ball and opened its mouth. I told my friend that the kitten was alive and he started freaking out. I asked if he would find a light to turn around at, and while driving we both came to the conclusion it would be faster if I tried running back...And I am not a runner.

Once I reached the point where I saw the kitten, it had moved from the pothole to the concrete divider. As I ran across lanes of traffic, a van was pulling over. Thankfully, he also saw the kitten and was able to get that lane to slow down when he pulled over. I unfortunately cannot remember his name, but I scooped up the kitten and asked if it was his by chance. He said it wasn’t and that if he didn’t already have animals he would take the cat.

He was nice enough to drive me to the McDonald’s parking lot where I waited for my friend to pick me up. I got a cup of water from McDonald’s to try and give the kitten some water, but he was in a state of shock. As my friend was driving me home, I felt strange clicking in the back legs and hips. When we got to my apartment, I set him down and realized he was dragging his back legs. I immediately took him to an emergency vet.

They did X-rays and discovered he had a few breaks in his right leg. His pelvis is cracked as well. They do believe the pelvis has a chance to heal on its own, but he will need surgery to repair the breaks. But because he’s so small, the alternative might have to be to amputate the leg. He also is anemic due to the amount of fleas and ticks that had been swarming him.

Currently, he has pain medication and is in a confined space resting. Each time he has gone to the bathroom, I have to wash his back legs and tail. They think there could potentially be brain damage from the trauma. His lactic acid count should be at a 1, and his is at a 7.5. His blood sugar is also high. They think these are trauma responses. She said this may affect him mentally and he may be a little slower to learn."

Sabi also goes on to say that due to the nature of the breaks in the kittens legs, the vets believe that the kitten was abused prior to being abandoned.

When Sabi found the kitten, there was also a small rubber duck laying right beside him. Which is why the kitten has now been named 'Ducky.' We are raising money to help pay for Ducky's emergency vet visit (around $400) as well as fund the money needed for ducky's surgery to his back legs/amputation (around $3000.)
