Help Our Friend, Aaron Bernard Rich, Recover from Serious Illness

A dear friend of 40-plus years, one of the “North Clarence Mafia,” needs our help. Clarence (New York) High School Class of 1985 graduate Aaron Bernard Rich has been hospitalized since April 6. He is suffering terribly from an assortment of serious ailments involving his heart, lungs, and liver.

An honorable United States Navy veteran, Aaron worked 30-plus years as an air traffic controller at a small municipal airport near Fayetteville, Arkansas. Recently, however, he was forced into early retirement due to a heart condition. Since his retirement, his health has continued to deteriorate and is now receiving 24-hour medical attention. After about a week in ICU and several days in a regular hospital room, our friend was moved to an in-patient rehab facility where as of early May 2023 he remains. He is too unstable, however, to begin rehab. He has a long road ahead toward recovery.

For the Clarence High School alum who knew of him but didn’t know him, let us say a few words about Aaron. He lived on Northfield Road near the rest of us North Clarence Mafia from Tonawanda Creek, Wolcott, Sesh, and West Phaliger roads. The bonfire parties down by the creek and the house parties we enjoyed together are legendary. Where were our parents anyway? We played pond hockey under the lights in the freezing cold, tackle football in the snow, pulled all-nighters cramming for state Regents exams, talked about all those fine Clarence girls, and listened to thousands of hours of Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Kiss music. We even tried to start a rock band. In nearly all of our fond memories of laughs, fun, and occasional stupidity, Aaron was there with us. A best friend in every sense. Today, Aaron is married and shares a lovely home with his wife of 10 years, Gerri. Your generous donations to this GoFundMe campaign will be used to provide assistance toward his medical expenses that their health insurance doesn’t cover, his current rehab facility stay, and his expected rehab expenses once he returns home.

Please help if you can.

Sincerely,
