Help Aaron Graduate

Donation protected
Hello all,

My name is Aaron Kane and I'm a Senior at DePaul University, majoring in Public Relations and Advertising. I am asking for any help to get me to graduation.

 Why I am asking help:

I have been attending DePaul for 5 years as a part-time student while working full-time and several part-time jobs to help pay for school. Since starting at DePaul I have been paying out of pocket, using the help of FASFA loans and scholarships. As of this winter quarter I have run out FASFA help. I hit the max amount they will lend without parental help. Unfortunately, my parents passed away before I even started my academic career at DePaul, so I have been without the normal finical support parents would typically provide. I miss them greatly and have continued to pursue my passion in advertising to make them proud and because I know they would have wanted a better life for me.

How I got here:

The last 4 years went according to my plan. I started at Harper Community College to help lower my educational cost as I worked and saved up money. After transferring to DePaul I knew my education was on me. I applied to FASFA and to every scholarship I could to help ease the out of pocket cost.  I struggled and fought but stuck to my plan and finically made it work. That was until this November as my finical aid from FASFA ran out. I knew it was coming and saved up for the final two quarters to be all out of pocket and scholarships. My plan fell apart after I was in a car accident in early November. I drive for a living as I do emergency expediting, but with my car in the shop, I could not work. This caused me to have to use my savings to pay my bills and to get my car fixed. I also commute to school so not fixing my car was not an option. This unexpected situation came at the worse time possible as my aid ran out. I have gotten my car back and I am taking every job possible to try and catch up, but my back is against the wall. I need to pay the remainder of what the scholarships have not been able to cover before March 10. If I do not raise the $1,500 I won’t graduate.

 Why the Degree matters:

Since I entered DePaul I have had one dream. I have wanted to graduate with my bachelor's and work in advertising. I have my heart set on working either in media planning or account planning. I am working hard on getting an internship at several agencies that will hopefully lead to a full-time position after graduation. I would really love to intern for Mediavest | Spark, or Ogilvy because their company culture and continued education align with what I look for in a career post school. I  also keep my passion for advertising going through my blog, reading Adweek, just watching different ads on YouTube and talking anyone’s ear off about advertising that I can. I normally do not ask for help, but I’m in a position that if I do not ask I will not be able to graduate.

Thank you for any help. I hope with your donations I will never be in this position again, but instead after I graduate and make my parents proud I can turn around and help others like me.

 Sincerely,

Aaron C. Kane
