Hi, my name is Dallas Rein, and Anna and Aaron, our dear friends and neighbors for three years, never thought they would face a challenge like this. Anna and Aaron have been together for 33 years, and so much of their family home on Oahu’s Ke Iki Beach, that Aaron himself spent four years building, is damaged beyond their worst expectations.

Back-to-back floods have led to devastating damage. The first storm is said to be the worst in 75 years, followed by a second storm nine days later. Sadly, water rose to over six feet inside their home, cutting off access to power, clean water, or basic necessities, and Aaron and Anna have lost more than they ever imagined.

The flood destroyed the first floor of their home, both of their two cars, Aaron’s tools, and countless personal belongings. Their home is unsafe, covered in mud, and filled with broken appliances.

Now without a car, Anna cannot make her daily 1.5 hour round trip commute to the resort where she helps visitors enjoy the island every day. Aaron with the damage to their home, is now seeing his and Anna’s main source of income, their property management business, facing more expenses, challenges, and unknown questions every day.

Still in the face of all of this adversity, Anna and Aaron are doing what they’re known for in the community, keeping a positive spirit and helping others. We have seen countless times when Aaron would see visitors to the North Shore too close to a fast rising tide or dangerous swell, to ensure they are safe. He has even rescued several people himself (though he like others in the tight knit North Shore community would never tell you that!).

Anna, who we have never seen without a smile, has been deeply affected by this loss.

Beyond all of the material and financial challenges, they have lost many keepsakes and mementos they have collected over 33 years that they will never recover.

Any support will go toward getting them back to basic necessities, helping restore their livelihood, and giving them a start toward rebuilding their family home and starting the next chapter.
