Help AA Flight Attendant Enrique Maldonado!
Donation protected
At the end of July, Enrique started feeling a tingling sensation in his feet. That feeling then went to his legs and spread to his upper body. In a matter of days, he was unable to see clearly, talk or breathe on his own. Enrique was placed on a ventilator for a month and a half. He received a tracheotomy and feeding tube.
He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. GBS is a condition where the immune system attacks the nervous system. The exact cause of GBS is unknown. It can take 1-5 years to recover and to learn to walk again.
Enrique is now in rehabilitative care as of October 1. He is able to talk and move from his shoulders up; however, he has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
Enrique is a ORD-based American Airlines Flight Attendant. He used to fly for Frontier Airlines. Enrique recently moved into a new apartment with his best friend in Chicago in May 2020. He turned 26-years-old on July 15. Three days after his birthday, he started experiencing GBS symptoms. As many of you know, AA flight attendants lost medical insurance as of October 1 due to a furlough.
For those of you who don't know Enrique, he is strong-willed and tough, but gentle and friendly. He has a love for dancing, fashion, travel and fun.
2020 has not been as easy year, especially for flight attendants, but coming together is what will get us through it. (Socially-distanced version, of course.)
Please find it in your heart to donate for our friend and crew member. The money will go to his rehabilitative care and medical bills. I know times are tough right now, but any little bit helps.
