It is with extreme sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joseph William Checkan. Joe was a bright light in the world and will be deeply missed. Beloved by family, friends and neighbors, he was a friend to many and was the type of person who would do anything for anyone without hesitation. He touched the lives of so many: it's our turn to give back to the family in their time of need.

 

Joe Checkan unexpectedly passed away on May 11, 2022, in Ooltewah, TN. His premature passing has left his son Preston, daughter Nadia and his loving wife Darlene and their beloved dogs in a whirlwind. The family is understandably shocked by this loss and was not prepared for this untimely end.

 

Since that day, it has been a chaotic roller coaster of emotional ups and downs, sleepless nights and countless tears.

 

If you knew Darlene & Joe, you’d know that they made an amazing couple in their marriage and in their community. They were always looking for ways to help others, hosting gatherings, assisting neighbors with projects and opening their home and their hearts to everyone. They were friends to many and enemies to few.

 

Darlene has been surprised is grateful for the huge outpouring of community support she has received and is thankful for the encouraging words and prayers.

 

Joe was her rock, her world, her everything. She is now left with an unimaginable emptiness and grief. There is so much to do and she is left wondering how will she do this alone. She is lost, in shock and hoping she will wake up from this devastating nightmare. We are trying to help navigate this sudden change and take care of as much as we can for her. Joe had his own business and was the principal breadwinner. His sudden passing has created a significant financial burden for her and added to everything else, it’s just too much.

 

We are raising funds to help cover the cost of memorial, medical and other expenses as this passing was sudden and completely unexpected.
