Help a Young Postpartum Mom Get Life-Saving Brain Surgery

Hi, my name is Zoporia (Z), and I’m a new mom navigating something I never imagined—recovering from multiple strokes just 6 months after giving birth, and now facing a rare brain condition called MoyaMoya.

MoyaMoya is a progressive and serious disease that causes strokes, seizures, headaches, visual/oral/cognitive impairment, and even aneurysms. Brain surgery is my best chance to prevent more strokes and giving myself a real chance at healing. The surgery is out of state in California, and while I’m doing everything I can to prepare, I’m up against the impossible: no income, no way to work (medical leave without pay), difficulties with insurance coverage, and multiple chronic medical conditions (Sickle Cell Disease and MoyaMoya Syndrome). As a full-time single mom, I’m already relying heavily on my family just to make it through each day and take care of my baby.

I’m asking for help to cover travel and medical expenses so that I can safely get to surgery and begin recovering. Every dollar helps relieve a piece of the overwhelming stress and gets me one step closer to being there for my child—healthy and whole. I have been working since 14/15 years old, living independently since 17 years old, am accustomed to helping others when in need, and because of that, I have hesitancy and nervousness with setting up a GoFundMe. However, I'd rather take my chances with asking for help with travel arrangements for my surgery than my family asking for help with burial cost.
