Help a young mother undergo transplant

It started about a year ago when 32-year-old Zaira started feeling lethargic, fatigued, and breathless with a visible pale complexion. Initially, the symptoms were mild, her strong personality persuaded her to manage herself and keep going with her daily routine of taking care of her family. After a few weeks, she started noticing bruises and irregular bleeding from here and there. Little did she know that her beautiful life was about to shatter. She was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer called Myelodysplastic syndrome.

Zaira is a loving, empathetic, and caring woman. She is a loving wife, a supportive sister, and a dedicated mother to a 2.5-year-old adorable boy whom she loves to the moon and back. He is the reason she wants to get treated and live a long healthy life. He gives her the energy to keep going every single day and bear the trauma of chemotherapy sessions and complications of her disease every now and then.

Zaira had always been a strong pillar of her family. She had always been there to help her friends and family in their difficult times but now she herself needs our prayers and support to get through this trauma. She is being treated in Agha Khan Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan for the last six months (MR#811-03-18) in the hope to get rid of her cancer by chemotherapy. It had been a difficult path to keep her blood cells stabilized. The doctors finally recommended a bone marrow transplant for her. Her donor matching has been done and the transplant needs to be done as soon as possible because her condition is deteriorating. The clock is ticking for her, the only hurdle in her surgery is the lack of funds.

Bone marrow transplant is a very expensive procedure in Pakistan with an estimated cost of around 7 million Pakistani rupees. Close family and friends have been able to raise 1.5 million pkr. Zaira still needs 5.5 million pkr equivalent to USD 26,000 to undergo a transplant.
