Hi! I’m Brisa López Méndez — the only female bassoonist in Yucatán, Mexico, and one of the very few bassoon players in my entire state.
I first discovered the bassoon at age 11, thanks to a social music program that offered free lessons and loaned instruments to children from low-income families. From the very first note, I fell in love with the bassoon — and I began to dream, even then, of studying music in Europe.
It felt impossible at the time, just like owning my own instrument once did.
To pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Music, I had to travel four hours every day from my coastal hometown to the university. Despite the challenges, I worked hard and was honored with second place in the university’s soloist competition, graduated with distinction, and had the privilege of performing several times with the best orchestra in my city.
Now, that dream from my childhood is finally within reach:
I’ve been accepted to study a Master’s in Bassoon at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, Germany.
But I need your help to make it happen. Every donation — no matter how small — means the world to me.
Please help that 11-year-old girl who dreamed of studying in Europe finally reach her goal.
In doing so, you’ll help me return to Mexico equipped with knowledge, ready to inspire and train the next generations of bassoonists in Yucatán.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in music, in dreams, and in me.
