Help “Greenhorn” Finish His 2,650-Mile Journey on the Pacific Crest Trail
Aloha friends, family, and fellow adventurers,
My younger brother, Ian Ikaika Riordan—trail name “Greenhorn”—is currently hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650-mile trek from Mexico to Canada. At just 18 years old, he’s already halfway through this life-changing journey, fueled by determination, grit, and a deep love for the outdoors.
Greenhorn’s story is one of hard work and heart. He graduated high school early while working two part-time jobs—as a car mechanic and pizza slinger. After graduation in 2024, he continued working 55+ hours a week for 8 months to save up for this dream. But the trail is unpredictable. Weather delays, gear replacements, food, lodging, and unexpected costs have taken a toll on his budget—and now, he’s at risk of not being able to finish.
Despite the challenges, Greenhorn has embraced every step and plans to go for broke. He’s grown stronger, more confident, and more connected to the world around him. I was with him as he did his first overnighter, and I recently joined him for a multi-day section hike near Lake Tahoe. I saw firsthand how much this journey has transformed him and widened the horizon of his happiness. What I once thought was a detour from “real adult life” has become one of the most meaningful things he’s ever done...so far.
Now, he needs a little help to reach the finish line.
Your support will go directly toward:
• Spam Singles (he swears they are sooo good)
• Ramen Noodles
• Hostel/Motel Stays
• Nightly Snickers Bars and Daily packets of nerd Clusters
• Equipment/Transportation costs
Every dollar helps. Whether it’s the cost of a meal or a night’s rest, your contribution will help Greenhorn keep walking toward Canada—and toward the person he’s becoming.
When he finishes, his first plan is to give our mom a big, stinky hug—and then pursue his dream of becoming an aviation technician.
Thank you for supporting a young dreamer on the trail of a lifetime.
