Help a Young Family Rebuild After Devestating Fire

In a matter of moments, a young family in our community lost absolutely everything in a tragic house fire. Rylee, Alex, and their one-year-old son, Austin, nearly lost their lives when a fire tore through their home. As flames consumed everything around them, they were unaware of the danger until it was almost too late.

It was only because of a heroic police officer—who broke down their door—that they were able to escape in time. Had it been just moments later, this young family might not be here today.

They got out with nothing but the pajamas they were wearing. Their home, their belongings, even their vehicles were completely destroyed.

The family is expecting a baby girl this July. In what should be a time of joy and preparation, they’re now faced with unimaginable loss, trauma, and uncertainty.

While they did have insurance, they’ve since learned that the payout will only cover the small remaining mortgage on their home—not the actual value, nor the renovations and improvements they had worked so hard to invest in. With today’s housing market, rebuilding or purchasing another home even close to the amount they will receive is impossible.

On top of that, the insurance company will only support rental assistance until the claim is finalized, which is expected to be within a few weeks. They are now left trying to find safe, affordable housing in a market where rent is more than double the cost of their mortgage.

This family is incredibly humble and hesitant to ask for help, but the reality is that they need community support now more than ever. They are facing unimaginable uncertainty and emotional trauma, all while trying to stay strong and start over from nothing. They are overwhelmed with gratitude for the community’s incredible generosity so far—donations of clothing, baby items, financial donations and essential supports have been tremendous and so appreciated.
