Our daughter and her fiancé just began what should have been one of the happiest chapters of their lives. Newly engaged, they closed on their very first home on March 6th and were so excited to start building their future together—planning their wedding, creating memories, and enjoying the beautiful creek behind their home.
They knew the house was in a flood plain, but were reassured by the sellers in the disclosure that the only past issue was the sump pump failing in 2024. They were not from the area and neither was their realtor. Trying their best due diligence, they secured flood insurance, reviewed disclosures, and moved forward with hope and excitement.
Then, less than 30 days later, everything changed.
On April 4th, severe storms across Michigan caused devastating flooding in many cities including theirs and surrounding areas. Heavy rain overnight created rising water and devastated their property—flooding their crawl space and completely submerging the bottom floor of their new Tri-level home.
They lost essential systems including their furnace, water heater, sump pump, and well pressure tanks—along with many personal belongings. They spent hours through the night and into Easter Day desperately pumping water just to try and save what they could.
During this, a neighbor revealed something they never knew—that this flooding happens every year, and the previous owners regularly dealt with it before deciding to sell.
They now have no heat or running water, facing repairs, high insurance deductibles, and an uncertain path forward—right at the very start of their lives together.
We are asking for any support you can give to help them recover, repair and make their home safe and livable again. Funds will go toward insurance deductibles, replacing essential home systems, and improving the property to help prevent future flooding.
If you’re unable to give, sharing this would mean just as much.
Thank you for helping lift up this young couple during such a difficult and unexpected time. ❤️
